Langkawi

Langkawi with its capital at Kuah is situated in the state of Kedah, and actually consists not of one but of all 104 islands. The largest of these islands is Langkawi; only three of the other islands are inhabited and of these Langkawi is the only one with a sizeable population mainly of Malay origin. Lagkawi is beautiful island-beaches, natural lakes and tall, dense tropical rainforests. Furthermore, almost every place on the island of Langkawi has some sort of legend attached to it.

Shopping

Kauh has been flooded with liquor, tobacco and electronics- not all of them at bargain prices, but some definitely worth a look. A few shops also sell local handicrafts, such as hand painted fabrics, shell work and island stones with miniature paintings on them.

Dinning and Restaurant

Langkawi, unlike most of Malaysia, has a predominantly Malay population; being Muslims, they do not eat pork; so you’ll find little pork on Langkawi. You will find a stunning range of excellent seafood, restaurant serving a wide range of cuisine –Malay, Chinese, Western etc as well as fine dining in restaurants in resort/hotel complexes.

Night Life

Golden beams of sun, ravishing beaches and a splurge of natural beauty is what Langwaki is all about. Nightlife in the island is not that happening though it teems with a number of pubs, discos, bars and restaurants. You have to remember that Langkawi is not Las Vegas; so expecting hot and fiery nightlife will only lead to disappointment.
